General foot care tips

Starting 2026 off on the right foot!

Start 2026 off on the right foot.

A new year is often the time that people decide to sort out those niggling problems that have been on their minds for a while.

If foot problems have been on your mind, then the new year is always a great time to take care of any foot-related issues that may have been bothering you.

Prevention of foot problems

New year often means resolutions and new habits. Why not try adding some new habits into your day to help prevent foot issues developing?

Our top tips would be –

  • Using a moisturiser on your feet daily if possible. Apply the cream all over your feet, except in between the toes. The best time to apply this is after bathing, as it means the cream will be in contact with the skin for as long as possible before being washed off again.
  • Using laundry disinfectant in every wash. Dettol laundry disinfectant is a good buy, but most supermarkets have their own brands too, as well as Eradicil anti-fungal laundry treatment, available from Amazon. Keeping your clothes free of fungal spores will help to keep athlete’s foot at bay.
  • Checking your feet over regularly. Our feet are often out of sight and out of mind. Many of us don’t pay them much attention day to day. It is always a good idea to check them over regularly. Check in between your toes for any skin changes, check the soles of the feet for any lesions you may not have noticed before. Using a mirror can help with this if you aren’t too flexible!

Making regular appointments with a Podiatrist

If you haven’t seen a Podiatrist before, why not make an appointment with one to discuss any niggles you may have with your feet. Early intervention can make dealing with problems such as ingrown toenails and fungal nail and skin infections much easier. Plus, regular general foot care can help keep issues such as corns and calluses at bay.

When you visit a Podiatrist, you may wonder why we ask all the questions that we do at your first appointment. We always take a thorough medical history before starting any treatment. This is important, as any treatment plan could be affected by underlying medical conditions, such as diabetes or vascular problems, as well as any medication that you may be taking. Some of the questions we ask may seen irrelevant, but there is always a reason why we need to know certain things.

So why not use the new year as a time to start looking after your feet.

If you feel we can help you, then you can book online to see us here.
