Show Your Feet Some Love!
Love your feet.
February means Valentine’s Day. But how about spreading the love, not just to our significant others, but also to our feet. They are, after all, pretty essential to our every day lives. And just like our human partners, probably don’t get the appreciation they deserve!
February is also Heart Month, so make sure you give your own heart some love too!
Foot Facts!
- There are 26 bones in each of your feet, and together these make up about 1 quarter of all the bones in the body.
- Your feet absorb around 1.5 times your body weight with each step.
- Your feet can change shape as you age, due to the forces that are absorbed by them over time. So, it’s worth getting your feet measured regularly as you get older, to ensure your shoes are a good fit.
- On average, a person will walk the equivalent of 5 times around the earth in their lifetime!
- Toenails grow more slowly than fingernails.
- The skin on the soles of your feet has more sweat glands per square centimetre than anywhere else on the body.
- There are over 100 ligaments in the feet.
- The Achilles tendon is the strongest tendon in your body.
- Almost everyone will have a difference between the sizes of their two feet, either length, width or both. So always go for the show size of your largest foot.
- When born, the bones in a baby’s feet are mostly made of cartilage and won’t fully form into bone until the late teens. So, footwear is very important in childhood.
- Many foot problems are caused by ill-fitting footwear. So, if you have foot pain, get some professional advice for shoe fitting.
- The feet can be an indicator of many health problems, such as poor circulation, diabetes, psoriasis, eczema to name but a few.
We think feet are great, and we hope you use this month to show them some extra love!
