What to expect from your first appointment with us

What to expect on your first appointment

Coming to see a Podiatrist for the first time can be a little daunting for some people, and many don’t know what to expect from their first appointment.

So, what should you expect from your first appointment at Round House Podiatry?

Before your first appointment

When we book you in for your appointment, providing you have an email address, we will send across confirmation of your appointment date and time via email, which will contain a link to an online form. This online form contains our consent to treatment, and a short medical history section for you to fill in before you attend for your appointment. Don’t worry if you don’t have an email address, we can fill in the form when you attend if needs be.

When you arrive

We have detailed directions to the clinic on our website, and our reception team can also help to guide you there over the phone if you can’t find us.

When you arrive, we are a small, welcoming space, so please take a seat in our waiting room, and we will call you in at your appointment time.

During your appointment

Once we have called you in for your appointment, we will go through your consent and medical history forms and discuss your reasons for booking in to see us, and the history of your problem.

After this, once you are comfortable in our treatment chair, we will take a look at your feet and carry out any diagnostic checks that are needed. For most people over the age of 50, we will carry out a doppler circulation check as standard, which lets us know the quality of blood flow to the feet, and can also pick up any irregularities in heart rate.

Once we have carried out any necessary diagnostics, we can discuss the causes of your podiatric issues and then carry out any treatment that is appropriate at that time.

In some cases, treatment on the day of the appointment may not be appropriate. For example, if further diagnostic tests such as x-rays or ultrasounds are required to confirm a diagnosis, we will need to refer on for these to take place before we can complete treatment.

Once any treatment required on the day has been carried out, we will discuss after-care, such as any recommended home treatment or products. We will also discuss your recommended treatment plan going forward.

After your appointment

If any further treatment from us is needed, we will book your follow-up appointment at the appropriate time to suit you.

The main thing to say is, if you are putting off coming to see a Podiatrist because you are nervous or unsure of what to expect, please don’t be! We have pretty much seen it all before, and no foot problem is too trivial or embarrassing for us!

If you think we can help you, then please book your appointment online here.
